There was actually an article in the paper mentioning the surge in butterflies in the park this wet season! \O

The one lion looks a bit skinny...not so easy now after the drought!
It was in fact amazing to see that masses and that variety of all the butterflies O\/

We were very pleased about three Lion sightings during our very first full day as normally it always takes a couple of days to get a decent cat sighting overall X#X No 23 is very well located :ty:

It was amazing to see the high green grass, the beautiful flowers and the colourful butterflies especially compared to last year's drought :O^

Sunday, 11. February 2017, Berg en Dal

Roads we visited today: S110 – H3 – S118 – S119 – S25 – S121 – H3 - S110

After a wonderful night’s rest and a fresh brewed coffee we turned into the direction of Matjulu and right outside the gate we spotted a still resting waterbuck male not willing to stand up yet.

Image

Close to the waterhole itself we were already flagged down by another car to look carefully into the bushes opposite the waterhole and there they were again our lions from yesterday evening.

Image

One of them was the whole time nearly invisible and the other two were only visible from one spot so after we got our shots we left as also all the people in the other cars wanted to have a look onto them and as it on top did not look as if they might move we did not stay that long

Image

although we were again happy that we could have another look onto them and once again started the day again with lions as second sighting. Then it was again time for the birds and as especially the sun came up from behind the hills in that area the light was brilliant again – a European roller simply had to be captured.

Image

The vultures were already taking a sun bath

Image

and Mrs. Zorro simply enjoyed the new morning.

Image

We then came across two rhinos, a mom plus youngster

Image

although the youngster was not that small any longer but is was a more than fascinating sighting to be that close to these beauties again.

Image

What had to be done simply had to be done!

Image

What a relief!

The buffalo bulls in their private spa simply chilled the day away

Image

and on the bridge across the Mlambane a group of kudu males one after the other popped out of the bushes in the riverbed and we once again could not believe our eyes in seeing the bushes again that lush and green

Image

and this was obviously also the opinion of the kudus as a collective smacking started.

Image

It was a wonderful sighting to see such handsome and beautiful male together and it was more than lovely that we were allowed to take a lot of close ups from them

Image

also from all their hitchhikers.

Image

Hello!

Image

We had to drag ourselves away from the kudus as all of them were so photogenic. On our further way we had another sighting of rhinos but a bit far away but the cute spotted flycatcher which we spotted next was close enough for a shot

Image

as well as this brown raptor.

Image

to be continued.....
