Sis - I love ellies too - they are such intriguing animals, and so very bright. It's just too bad their matriarchal family groups have to exile the males. Even male elephants need a family (anthropomorphic projecting, which I know is not valid)

. My SO often comments when we encounter lone springbok (KTP) males or older buffalo, etc that he feels sorry for them and wonders if they get lonely - or do they just not know what it is to be a member of a caring group, so they can't miss something of which they have no concept?
(The "lonely" males probably count their blessings every time they overhear a tourist couple/family squabbling over something trivial
