The Knob thoirn is very nutritious and has dry pods for that purpose ..To get to the succulent nutritious roots as well and to disperse seeds through their digestive systems. In this case the tree seems dead as it broke leaving the roots in the ground

An elephant's trunk weighs up to 140kg and contains about 50,000 muscles (there are about 639 muscles in the entire human body!). Elephants use their trunks to breath, drink, eat, smell, snorkel, wrestle, communicate, touch, feel, hold, grab and pull.

Up to 12,000 acacia seeds have been counted in just one ball of elephant manure. Not only do elephants distribute these seeds far and wide, they do so in balls of natural fertilizer. Studies show that acacia seeds that have passed through an elephant gut can have a germination rate of more than 75%, compared to around 12% for those that don't.
