We were still discussing whether to continue on the S36 or whether to take the tar road to Satara when we faced a closed road and so the decision was already taken and we had to drive via the tar road and not long on that road we had to stop again as a large elephant herd was about to cross the road with one of the cutest youngster we have ever seen

Image

Image

but same was not alone and surrounded and protected by a huge mom and a lot of aunts

Image

but within the vicinity of the larger ones the little one got more and more overconfident

Image

and walked closer to the road and consequently also to us

Image

and then suddenly started to scream one’s head off and so brought the whole herd on the scene immediately.

Image

For sure we drove soonest backwards and then they decided to cross and block the road

Image

and waited for more to join them

Image

they also had a cute youngster with them

who even was smiling

Image

whilst the others were feeding

Image

soon the cute youngster met a friend

Image

and mom was nursing one of them. Luckily they all stayed relaxed and soon we could continue our way.

Image

The road leading to Leeupan was a stringing together of puddles in all sizes and not easy to drive but finally we succeeded and just noted a taking off woolly-necked stork

Image

Image

and after we parked the car we noticed in the dead tree in the middle of the pan masses of knob-billed ducks and on the ground two males

Image

were involved in a fight and the water splashed in all directions.

Image

to be continued……..
