Yes I am very fortunate . This one is a regular visitor , usually overflying early mornings , and this is only the first time it perched in this tree . Previously perched twice , but further away from the house .

But I am also very fortunate , with several other raptors visiting , sitting on that tree , or in hunting mode for doves , or guinea fowls and their chicks . Other raptors that came to visit me like this were : Booted eagle ( once only ) , Steppe Buzzard ( annually ) , Jackal Buzzard (resident ) , Black Sparrowhawk ( regular ) , African goshawk ( two or three times - hunting ) , Peregrine falcon , Lanner falcon , Rock Kestrel ( resident ) , Lesser Kestrel ( annual ) , Black shouldered kite ( resident ) , as well as a pair of resident Spotted eagle owls :-) .

I photographed one flying over my house a few weeks ago... I should have already posted it here but I think it fell through the cracks! I will find the pic and post it here :-)

Other unusual birds in and around our area include, Woodland Kingfisher, Grey-Headed Bush-Shrike and one of the sparrowhawks (not sure which one). For the past couple of years we have also had Grey Hornbills in the area.

Flutts, you live in the same area as me, why do you switch off when you come home from the bush?
