Never seen such crab in Kruger,

so stunning sighting, Roger

we always come across the Hyenas early morning

Yes even though common we like to see them in unusual situations .

After stopping in at Satara we headed south just as we approached the S100 we noticed there wasn't a no entry sign up . Oh my goodness an open dirt road .We immediately turned off to drive the S100

There was little damage to the road and crossing the first small water crossing we found some birds starting with the Summer Kruger Icon





And a double woodie


And some bigger feathered birds


we stopped in at the picnic site and did breakfast of bacon & eggs .Afterwards we went up to the hide sighting spot and we spotted a martial eagle in the distance .


After leaving the site we found the same along the road .




And a big ellie we thought may be a tusker


and his Leutenant who managed to keep blocking us getting a clear shot


We were super amped to have done dirt roads and gone back round the loop on the H6 this was the best day so far. We decided to start heading back to camp and found that the S40 Timbavati road had been opened since we passed by so went up but found that there was no other linked road open so ended up turning back after stopping in at the picnic spot .

We got back to the H7 and turned towards Orpen and the day got even better ...

We found some cars and a camper stopped .They informed us there was dogs up on the ridge .We looked and squinted with binocks and managed to get a far away look at a dog that picked its head up.


As the campervan pulled off we saw another group of vehicles passed them with people out of their vehicles ...what was going on .We drove up and found the Vet and EWT and some other visitors watching a procedure on a Wild dog so we parked off and asked to join .

Turns out they were changing the collar on the Alpha female and doing some other sample collection while they had the opportunity





Eventually when they completed they placed her back in the Veld and after a few last pics administered the antidote


She came around quickly and we were advised to stand still as she circled to pickup the packs scent and she did exactly that running around us and then headed off directly where we had seen the rest of the pack.


We headed off to camp after the best experience we could have wished for .

what a great and exciting experience with the wild dog and luckily the vets allowed to take a couple of shots

Our first open gravel road was also the S100 We were finally so happy in founding at least one the more North we drove the more sand roads were open

"The same along the road" is a black-breasted snake eagle

Interesting experience; the EWT is becoming very important I did not know that they worked together with SANParks, but maybe only when it comes to wild dogs

It must have been a nice feeling to get off the tar

Glad you got some dirt roads, plus the astounding wild dog opportunity!

It is good that they allow tourists to observe discreetly.

My favourite is the ostrich, a rare setting.

unfortunately we did not go more North but it was interesting for us to see how much you can see traveling the same tar roads .

I think the Cheetah project run by EWT as well works closely with the Sanparks teams

It was an amazing experience and good to be able to chat and interact with the VET and EWT team very informative .
