Thanks Amoli.
A short while later we saw some more little bokkies that were a bit bigger than you.
And not far from there, we saw another youngster.
The entry into paradise took a little longer than I would have liked because being a public holiday, it seemed like all the locals were queuing for miles to spend heritage day in the best place that is our heritage.
So by the time we had done the loops around the koppies, it was time for a leg stretch and some coffee and rusks. Since it was less than conveneint to stop along the roadside and have apicnic, we pulled into Pretoriuskop.
It was planned that we would do the H2 (voortrekker road) and visit Jocks birthplace. (I hear that the doggies hve been seen there recently but the silly tarts were absent on the day we called.
Somewhere just before ship mountain, we found this little birdie (Tawny Eagle) having his own brekkie.
This was an awesome thing to watch. Even with the light on the wrong side of the subject, we could see the hair floating away on the rather strong breeeze.
As luck would have it, we came across a bunch of lazy little puddy tats.

Nice one BH.
Always great to watch a raptor feeding.

Thanks for the comments.
I have been trying for a long time to get a fair picksha of one of these.
This one had the light on the correct side and posed so nicely.
Next one up was this lone ellie on the other side of the road. His proximity to us when I stopped for the shot caused Hunny a lot of anxiety.
Funny how sightings can sometimes hurt ones ears. So we didn't spend much time there before we moved on. Afsaal was still a ways away and the rusks long since digested.
This old fella was up next.
All alone with not another giraffe in sight.

Slowveld kid had suggested we try the Kudu wors rolls at Afsaal. Said they were very good. Since I am perpetually hungry, I was anxious to get toAfsaal and get one of these delicacies.
At the price of 30 ronds, I must say I expected a lot more and was contemplating if it was possible to race to Nkulu for one of their Buff pasties.
From there it was off to Berg en Dal, set up camp and chill before taking a late afternoon drive. The kid and his buddy were joining us for two nights.
Somewhere between Numbe gate and Berg en Dal we did see one or two of these fellas.
The rest of the day was very quiet by comparison. The only one of the big 5 we didn't see was the spotty one.
The late afternoon drive yielded very little but we had seen a lot fro day one. A fire and a nice little tea on ice was all that was needed to end a perfect day in paradise.
It's something special to hear the day shift handing over to the night shift. The two different orchestras belting out their own harmonies. Both spectacular in its own right.
After some late nights and early mornings, it was off to bed early and falling asleep drinking in the night shift orchestra was balm for my soul. Day one was done and the best was yet to come.
