October isn’t the best time for my type of fishing, but as it was an awesome day I decided to duck down to one of my favourite spots near Umkomaas with the Cow and clan.
I put out a bonny as bait and didn’t expect much action.
15 minutes later the game was on, but I immediately knew it was a blackfin as she was bailing out the water just like a bass does.
I have hooked plenty of these over the years and know that only about 3 in 10 are landed, as their antics normally involve them rolling up your line, breaking traces, etc, so I called the Cow and gave her the rod to enjoy the short lived experience, but after 2 minutes the shark was still on and was now emptying the reel at great speed, so I started to tighten up on the drag, which caused the Cow to squawk as she was about to go water skiing, so I took over again.
An hour later I realized that mates would be required to get this one out, so the Cow was tasked to find willing mates in the area to assist, who fortunately arrived
