@ Flutterby!!
It's an old habit. Never able to resist doing it. When we camp we always choose the spot furthest away from the bathrooms, preferably no powerpoint, and take the scenic route to the toilet. Oaky, Duco has to go with in the middle of the night and you do run the risk of almost wetting your pants when a scrubhare come around the corner of the toilets at Punda (looks very much like a hyena in the middle of the night! )! The only camp I'm iffy about is Letaba. Way too many bushes for stuff to hide behind.

Re: Never say never....
I guess that's why guests were driving to the bathrooms with their cars.
We've honestly never been bothered. I remember seeing the iffy back gate at Shingwedzi for the first time and thinking....Eh...what's that going to keep from coming into the camp?
Or Kalahari Tented Camp! You park your car behind these safe gates, man height, all secure. We were enjoying our braai and Duco kindly pointed out where I was sitting. On the wall. Less than a metre from the ground... No fence... I flew up from that wall like a bee had stung me and steered well clear of it after that. Didn't help when we were staying with friends in Hoedspuit after Kruger, who told us about hyenas taking down a Blue Wildebeest between the tents not long ago. They eventually trapped it under one of the tents where it took hours to finish the kill. The German tourists inside left for Twee Rivieren next morning to leave the park with 5 days of their trip still left!
I guess you do get blase.

Hi GP
Caught up again. Caracal
Love the TOC loop, always do it when we in the area. Share your sentiments about Mopani, only ever stayed their once - had to experience it. We were booked for 3 nights, got tired of it in one, and were lucky to get space in Letab for the remaining 2 nights.
See the Hb is still at Tamboti . We were in KTP when the hyenas brought down the wildie but staying in Mata mata not KTC. Say Hi to Duco

Hello passed on Duke!
So the last part of our short trip. Since we were staying with friends in Hoedspruit, we did a last drive towards Talamati, Satara and out.
A very special one just outside Tamboti - duiker in the open:
White-crested helmetshrikes:
Eh...some raptor?
African Crake:
SanParks helicopter:
Yellow-billed Kite:
Satara:
Kudu Bull:
A nice surprise not far from Bobbejaankrans. A Nyala Bull:
Bateleur in flight:
