30 December: We leave Polentswa
Friday the 30th December was pack up day. The day we were leaving Polentswa and heading down to Kielie Krankie for one night.
Even though it s a long drive, we had planned to head up north for an early morning drive before returning, taking down the tent and setting off south.
We were woken by the sounds of lions roaring near the lodge, which Corlette confirmed that they had been right next to their accommodation at the lodge in the early hours of the morning.
As left the camp, we were presented with this sunrise:
A the waterhole at Polentswa we spotted this kori bustard, who did not appreciate our attention.
They are such ungainly birds when the try and take off.
The road up to Liejersdraai was a lot dryer than the previous few days, and we had lion and hyena spoor on the road for good periods of time as we headed north. The spoor would tease us for periods and then disappear, only to reappear again a bit further on. It seemed as if the road had been a bit of a predator highway overnight.
Then at the start of the Liersdraai loops our luck changed.
This lone hyena came sauntering down the road
Before walking off away into the distance
We had a quick look to see if the bullfrogs were still around. They were.
Back at camp we were welcomed by these gemsbok in the riverbed
After taking down the campsite, we set off for Nossob.
