10 June, Satara

At about 3am we woke to a big commotion outside. Two honey badgers were on our verandah digging in our dustbin which I'd forgotten to bring inside!! :O^

They licked every last thing clean and eventually left, so we got back into bed. Then we heard this really strange noise...almost like hyenas laughing. We looked outside the window and the honey badgers were rolling around and wrestling under my car, all the while making this strange noise!! I've heard their chirping growl before but had never heard this before. I managed to get a pic with the Brat shining the torch on them, but I didn't think to video them. 0*\

We eventually got back to sleep but were soon up again at 5am. Not having a kitchen meant I had to walk to the communal one for hot water. I walked across the circle, on the grass and dead leaves, as it was the shorter route, but coming back something nipped at my ankle!! I got such a fright and shone the torch all over the place but couldn't see anything. I checked my ankle and thankfully there were no marks!! :-) Needless to say, the next morning I took the long way around on the road!! O**

We got to the gate at about 5.45 and there were already about 7 cars there. Before we'd seen the lions on the S100 we'd already decided that our morning drive would be along the S100, up the S41 and back on the S90. When the gates opened, all the cars turned right, but thankfully only about 5 cars turned onto the S100 ahead of us. The lions were still on the kill but there were now 3 of them instead of two. We were parked parallel to the sighting but the grass was so long that it was still hard to take decent pics. :O^

It was still quite dark so I managed a sunrise pic of some of the many vultures hanging around.

There were 2 jackals running around but this is the best pic I could get! :O^

We eventually left the lions behind and soon came across this idyllic scene!! :-0

As nice as the honey badgers are in the wild as annoying are they in camp :O^ lol

I love your baboon pics, especially the two on the branch, but also the group cuddling together trying to warm up ^Q^ ^Q^

A video of the lions on the kill. You can see the steam rising from the carcass. ;-)

Wow, you two are already having quite the adventure - cool birds, lion w/ giraffe prey, HBs being naughty, and lovely, scenic backlit baboons are cherries on top. O/\
