We are talking about sighting chasing. Nobody is in a hurry to see if the sightings board is up to date.

Very questionable if these apps do more good than damage to conservation.

They just do the same greenwashing as all the commercial role-players in the tourism industry to keep up the conservationist image.

lol

The app was used very successfully indeed to report snares and emergencies/alerts, ironically, and SP stopped that too recently. O**

One can read all the recurring arguments from the beginning of the thread in 2012... O:V

IMO those APPs have nothing to do with conservation. Their only use is to see animals.

We do not know if people did not report the same amount of snares before.

It is also a vital lifeline for people overseas and far from Kruger. ;-)

The south will always be a circus with or without the app. There will always be lots of day visitors racing from one point to another searching for the big 5

SP will always look for an easy way out and to blame someone else

Is it not also a bit funny that Kruger insist that all problems are reported via official telephone channels, but it seems someone reported Odie via social media? lol

OIdie's own replies are here from 2012:

\O

And Odie was made Honorary Ranger at 16, a record! :-0

Using that technology is compromising the nature experience and increasing the risk of accidends and road kills as a result of rushing to sightings.

Reporting snares etc is what I call greenwashing. Far better to report to the number on your entry permit.

I am on SANParks side whenever they try to get rid of this, but unfortunately it won't happen.
