Passalidius fortipes Burrowing Ground Beetle

Large (body length 32 mm), black, parallel-sided. Antennae bead-like, mandibles strongly developed. Elytra with longitudinal grooves.
They live under stones and burrow in the ground and their front legs are obviously adapted for digging.
