I took this photo in Kruger a couple years ago and it speaks to me even more today. If we "humans" are these old sacred souls last vestige of hope, I fear all my tears will have been in vain.

A five-year-old Johannesburg boy has donated R4000 of his birthday money to the Rhino SA anti-poaching campaign.

Bryan Daniels-Fok, whose father is of Chinese origin, told Beeld he had heard from his parents that rhinos were being killed for their horns.

"They (poachers) kill the rhinos. We have to save them!"

Mina Daniels-Fok, Bryan's mother, said her son had been very distressed when he heard about the poaching.

"He decided he wanted to help, so we came up with idea to ask half the people who wanted to give him a gift for his birthday to donate money instead."

Bryan's birthday was on February 2. Since then he has also asked customers of the family's import company -- which manufactures products for pets -- to donate money.

"We told people what Bryan wants to do and he's inspired people to get involved," Daniels-Fok sr. said.

Bryan last week handed over an amount of R4090 to Rhino SA at his creche in Glenvista, south of Johannesburg.

This is old news, but there we go.
