ExFmem wrote:First, before I get to the Blowflies that I'm trying to sort, the yellow "ladybug-looking" one w/ blue eyes above interested me because I still haven't been able to identify the blue-eyed blond one I posted here awhile ago. O/ Mine was much lighter, but this is the most similar bug I've seen to date.

"What's that bug?" site couldn't ID it, but suggested some kind of leaf beetle, and some of them certainly resemble ladybugs. Maybe consider a leaf beetle -O- -O-
If it's a Ladybird, it's not one of the regulars - Lunate, Harlequin or Potato. It's not even half the size of those and the newly hatched one I posted previously - which was probably a Harlequin, judging by the W on its head - was normal adult sized.

You are probably right about the blonde one being a Leaf Beetle.

Toko, I see the answer to the "Rhinia" fly has been removed, (I believe it suggested I could NOT assume it was a specific Genus, but only from a particular Family, Tribe, etc, and not down to genus level), so I will hold off posting that one for now. -O- X#X

GORGEOUS pics, BluTuna! O/\

Just when you thought I was done with flies... O** O** O** Yes! There's MORE 0- 0-

Please confirm:

Flesh Fly Sarcophaga africa* (My confusion on the species here is that the checklist on this site lists Sarcophaga cruentata Meigen, 1826, but it appears there was an earlier designation in 1824 by Wiedermann as S. africa)

Family SARCOPHAGIDAE
SubFamily SARCOPHAGINAE

Sarcophaga africa Wiedemann 1824
*Synonyms
Mesothrysia madagascariensis Enderlein, 1928
Musca haemorroidalis Fallén, 1816
Sarcophaga cruentata Meigen, 1826
Sarcophaga geogina Weidemann, 1830
Sarcophaga nurus Rondani, 1860

Identification (a compilation from various sites)
The thorax has THREE black longitudinal stripes, the abdomen is often a checkerboard pattern of black and gray spots, their eyes are reddish, with clear wings. The tip of the abdomen is usually red or pink. They are easy to confuse with house (Musca domestica) and face (M. autumnalis) flies, which have a thorax with FOUR dark longitudinal stripes, and an abdomen lacking the black and gray checkered pattern.

Image
Shows 3, not 4, stripes

Image
Shows orange tipped abdomen

All Oct. and Nov. KTP

ARE WE HAVING FUN YET??? O/\ O/\ ^0^ ^0^
