So Kelly at the end of the day I think it is a slender mongoose, for the simple reason that its tail is slightly curled up! lol

There are only two species of mongoose in Tembe, the slender mongoose and banded mongoose.

The large grey mongoose is a species of riverine habitat, wetland, coastal areas understorey vegetation and does not occur in a sand forest, not even in the swamp area there.
And it looks very different.

Thanks @ Richprins, for your efforts :ty:
The range extends into TE and they do have swamp areas there so I wondered. Also thought he looked quite robust in the pic but didn't see him live.
