The next morning dawned pretty clear with another nice sunrise as we meandered our way towards the Auob side.

Image

For some reason the Nossob side had seemed very sparse on sightings to us until this point, and so we planned to head along to Auchterlonie first to see if any spotted cats might make another appearance before heading over the lower dune road to check out if the Nossob side had picked up at all.

No cats were to be seen, and it seemed it was the Auob's turn to be quiet until we got nearer to Kamfersboom where we found a couple of cape foxes right next to the road O\/ O\/ O/\ O/\

Image

They had chosen the best side of the road for photography with the rising sun bathing them in light O:V

We were amazed how calm they were with our car so close to them so we kept snapping away and enjoying our time with them O/\

Once they had had enough of the photoshoot they hopped over the road and quickly disappeared from sight. We then called in at Auchterlonie for a pit stop before heading over the dune road

You were lucky to find elands.

The cape foxes are adorable and it is difficult to choose a favourite pic. BTW you were very lucky with those too

A sign like that would not resist in a place with lots of rain lol

My, the kids have grown

So happy you got such a brilliant fox sighting! And in the lower Auob on top of it. My money would have been on the lower Nossob rather than there. But well done ^Q^ :-0

The elands were near the entrance most days Lis, but we thought ourselves lucky to see them up at the hide as there was never normally anything there! Kids are both teenagers now so growing up quickly X#X

We were really happy to see the foxes so well. There are some more sightings to come... none of which were on the Nossob side =O:

Thanks Pumbaa. Those eland were staying close to the camp so there were seen most drives \O

As we crossed the lower dune road we had a nice sighting of a jackal ^Q^

Image

Image

Further on we stopped rapidly for a couple of bat-eared foxes O\/ O\/

Image

Image

They really didn't hang around, and very quickly charged off over the dunes out of sight.

Arriving at Kij Kij there were some namaqua sandgrouse

Image

It was still early so we decided to venture up the Nossob side a bit as far as Gunong. All was fairly quiet but a flash of orange on the road caught my attention - a cape cobra was crossing O/\ O/\

Image

Once over the road it cruised along towards the base of a tree

Image

Image

It became very difficult to see once at the tree, but we found where it was hiding and noticed quite a lot of mice running around. Presumably it was after some breakfast

Image

Image

It soon moved entirely out of sight but we were sure it would catch something given the number of mice in the area!

Certainly deserves a X#X
