Welcome to The Forum, Mattie010. You have had the most amazing beginner's luck. Thanks for sharing your tale with us. After this adventure you are sure to return for more - the bush becomes addictive.

Also lucky to see the Martial Eagle on a nest, Mattie!
Love the Varaan!
Regarding the holes in the tent, assuming it's a nylon one, I have no idea, really.
Best guess would be a ratel?

The pretty dove is an emerald spotted wood dove

God put me on earth to accomplish a certain amount of things. Right now I'm so far behind that I'll never die.

I guess it is time somewhere soon to continue this TT so you can expect an update anywhere in this oncoming week. Sometimes it is quite hard te find some time when you are busy.
Next episode will be about monitors, pythons and more! :)

Re: 6 Dutchies in a toyota avanza
Sooo, having been extremely busy last month means I couldn't update, but finally my holidays are coming, party!
So we were on our way to olifants, great place, lovely! We saw the same snakes again and even spotted some more and finally arrived at olifants (the low water bridge was closed, sadly)
We first saw some (carmine?) bee-eaters:

We saw some more animals and arrived at olifants, enjoying the view, taking lots of photos, when suddenly. Someone told us about two big male lions on the way to Satara just 10 meters off the road on a kill.
So off we went!
Just some photos to give an impression, not to mention we were all extremely excited. Our lion sightings were ok, but this. This was so absolutely stunning!
We arrived at the buffalo:

Or what was left of it..
First glamps of the lovely male lion (only one was there, sadly)

When we got the best spot:

We sat there for far over an hour, before leaving. It was a thrilling experience, which I loved from second to second. Lions are so special to see in general I guess, but this was different for me and for us. Our best lion sighting by far, although it didn't move much. The lion was relaxed and it was lovely to be able to be here, in the Krugerpark. I really loved it!
And the scavengers near the lion(s)
