Pumbaa.... it really was !! I was looking at the pictures and suddenly I started to compare the pictures to see if it was the same Leopard... Mopani is really her home

05 – Amazing Mopani V

Specially for Richprins-Okie-Alf-Nan

Another day in Mopani and almost like the day we met the Leopard (previous story) we found our treasure near the junction just outside Mopani camp.
Just turned right and we saw the first member of a group of ROAN antelopes.

I always love this kind of specials appearings completely unexpected
And so close to the road asking for a portrait… well… got you !

Looking behind this one we saw a few more in the background

Knowing that ROAN antelopes are rare it’s such a joy to stand there and watching them. I think they were here because of water in this area and because tihongonyeni was very very dry where they “normally” go for drinking.Next to the ROAN we also have seen Tsessebe here a few times , they also “left” the other places.

Based on their movements we could see they were about to cross the main road. So moving the car a bit for making some shots of them
But first the younger ones came to show themselves. Now we had a good view on all of them and we could count 12 of them in total.

Mopani… mmmmm…. Seen Sable… now the ROAN, not a bad place to be.


Then they started to cross the road (as expected) ….

So close so beautiful.
Even this younger one did not run or hide next to his mother but walking relaxed to other side of the road

Not showing all of them individual but after nr 11 we were waiting for the last one… and a bit further nr 12 crossed the road , the only one who was running but caught by the camera…

Mopani paradise …we just love the place. Our first camp ever in kruger and we will be there every time we go…no doubt…

Wonderful roan sighting !

The exotic species seems to be increasing in numbers !

We haven't seen a real "herd" of roan since our Botswana safaris of the eighties when we used to see them coming for a quick drink in the Chobe before rushing back into the bush - and now herds are sometimes seen in KNP - nature conservation must be working ! Well done SANPARKS !
