Alf, harrys, Flutts, and Pumbaa - appreciate your comments. O0 Thanks!

RP - seems to be a tinypic gremlin, 0' (BTW when you referred to them as "tinyprix", was that a typo or yet another ex. of your funny stuff? lol )

Mel - I really do wonder if the alcohol affects the moths? Back when I was collecting there was a well known technique to attract moths by painting a brown sugar/beer mixture on tree trunks. It worked well, as did hanging wine soaked ropes. Whatever works. X#X

Sis - Will try for a pic of the moth next time instead of trying to psychoanalyze them. Had WAY too much time on my hands. 0- 0-

nan - "beware Swiss army works only from 6Am to 6Pm" =O:

Dewi - too funny!

My Honeymoon stint over, I moved to TweeR.

On the trip down (4/23) I caught a brief glimpse of Miera in the area behind Montrose waterhole where I was watching an Egyptian geese family.

Image

As Miera emerged from the grasses, the parents were beside themselves trying to herd their 'lil ones into the water where they all paddled furiously. Horrible lighting, so not posting pics.

However, she did not stop to drink, as she had her eye on something.

Image

She chased whatever it was along the top of the dune, was unsuccessful, then settled down under large bush very far away.

Image

Any idea what the animal she's chasing might be? -O-

A couple other sightings -

Jackal Buzzard

The next morning I drove to Kij Kij, but was very uneventful. Saw 2 lioness on the dune, but never "did anything", just sitting, and a few of the usual odds 'n ends.

At one point I saw a group of 5 - 6 cars all pulled over looking in the same direction. Seeing only a herd of gemsboks (beautiful animals, but hardly crowd-worthy), I finally pulled up and asked what they saw. -O-

"Gemsbok", said the chap.
"All these cars for gemsbok?" I replied. :-? (You need to get out more often, I thought to myself.)
"We're traveling in a convoy, so we all stop together." \O

Okay, that made sense….However, on my afternoon drive I saw a group of cars pulled over looking at a herd of gemsboks, yet again. I searched and searched, but saw absolutely NOTHING else, so drove on, thinking, to each his own. After all, I spend endless amount of time with bugs.

Some time later a car stopped where I was photographing this Tawny,

and asked, "Did you see the cheetahs with the gemsbok kill down south?"
"No, I saw a group of cars, but no cheetahs????"
The nice couple informed me the kill was down in a trough/slope, in high grass, and was essentially hidden from sight, but the cheetahs could be seen occasionally when they lifted their heads.

"Thanks!", and off I went. O\/

It was the Top Cat Gang. They were the ones who had taken down the adult wildebeest last October when we were there, so they are a highly skilled and coordinated team! I only managed a few pics, just enough to ID them, but still added excitement to my evening.

The next day I ran into them yet again, on the Auob side, in wonderful light, and had them all to myself to boot...

Since the 3 cheetahs had been seen on the Nossob side the evening before, all the cars went in that direction first thing the next morning. I decided to avoid all the commotion and went over the dunes to the Auob side. About 2 km S of Kampfersboom waterhole, I encountered this same Top Cat Gang lazing about in the middle of the road.

Image

They got up one by one and headed into the bush opposite the riverbed, then eventually over the dune. Here are the 3 members of the coalition, bellys' still full :
