From Blue Train to Wild dogs -and a little bit in between

Seen in the Shipirivhiri loop area -- on the main road about 5 km from the Shingwedzi corner turn-off .

But , lots more to come

I just wonder...... The pack introduced up there was not that big

I enquired at Shingwedzi office , and I understand that a pack of 6 ( ? ) was introduced , and they moved into Mozambique , after one of those had broken away and joined up with a local pack .
The pack we saw consists of 22 dogs , of which we counted 16 youngsters .
One of the adults ( the first one shown here ) , is a male with a collar , and therefore maybe the introduced one

At first sight , when we saw these dogs , they were all in the middle of the road , and by the time I stopped , they had run into the bush , but all of a sudden they came back again , all chasing an Impala ram , over the road coming right past our vehicle and into the bush , with the dogs in a long drawn out string - and the old dog ( with collar ) right at the back .
We got the impression that this old dog was co-ordinating the hunt because he stayed around most of the time , trotting up and down in the road , peering into the bush .....

Well, they must have come from somewhere, but difficult to think that they have come from the South, however bad the traffic situation Did I read somewhere that the alpha male only had three legs

Could it be the same group (having come back from Mozambique) and having given birth to a lot a cubs

I was told that the group did indeed come back from Moz , but did not stay for long before crossing back to Mocambique .

I was also informed that there are a " lots of wild dogs " in the area west of Shingwedzi , although this was the very first time that we saw any dogs so far north

Great story !! Lovely to read all about the train and your stay in kruger.

I thought you are more into tuskers then birds ?

About the wilddogs... I have seen the wilddogs near Mopani and met some guys tracking and checking them. They told me that they released a pack near Mopani and Shingwedzi to "re-introduce" them in these areas.

That's what I know ... but great to seen them also up north now. It's good to have them spread allover kruger.

Yes indeed , I am still very much into elephants but , would you believe that this time round , we hardly saw any ellies at all

In fact , even other animals were also quite scarce , so we gladly accepted what was on offer , even if only a few birds and a stray pack of dogs
