Lovely stuff, Pumbaa! X#X

It is indeed a great camp, and very lush and peaceful. I am just concerned about maintenance there...

Love the terrapins, and of course lucky with the rhino! \O

After nearly the whole day on the roads we decided to do only a short afternoon drive which leaded us as always to Matjulu waterhole. During our drive we noticed a large pond in the middle of the veld which we did not notice during the morning because of no animals were around but now it was rush hour and we detected a giraffe,

Image

zebras were about to hurry into the direction of that natural waterhole

Image

Image

and further down we even spotted kudus

Image

and a very well hidden buffalo – It was in fact quite a lot around.

Image

We took already enough time into account which we wanted to spend at Matjulu in case there are our beloved white fronted bee eaters around and to our luck they were around and posed for us very willingly.

Image

Everywhere it was such a loud and plentiful twittering that it was such a joy they either were taking a dust bath

Image

or landed right onto a branch close to where we parked so we always

Image

switched from the dust bathing ones to the

ones who landed on the branch. It were uncountable of them around and we had such a great time as moreover we nearly spend the whole time there totally alone with nearly no other cars.

Image

Now it was in fact time to return to camp but close to the crossing to the road leading to the S120 I noticed some suspicious looking stripe of fur under a bush and after I reassured myself with the binoculars I told Timon there is a lion lying under that bush. “Under which bush?” he then replied and after I pointed same out to him he said “I cannot see one! You are nuts!” I now started to explain at great length which bush I mean but he still could not see one but luckily same got obviously tired of our explanations and debates and now stood up and there no longer explanations were necessary

Image

but he only changed position and sat down again now observing the other direction and then flopped down and was no longer to be seen.

Image

For us it was then also the signal to carry on as it was already late and so we reached camp nearly by gate closing time but our game watching was not yet over as when we were about to carry our stuff from the car to the bungalow we noticed an approaching elephant herd in the riverbed

Image

Image

and to our luck they even came closer.

Image

Image

It was in fact a large elephant herd with even lots of little ones between them and they neither looked left nor right but went straight forward.

Image

Image

to be continued....

So nice to spot a big cat by yourself, Pumbaa! :-0 :-0 :-0

Matjulu is very nice, as you say, and interesting the water appearing in the veld!

Interesting bird behaviour. [O]
