It has two petiole, is hairy, long legs, long antennae and a male, so not a cisticola, flycatcher or any other LBJ O:V

Am I on the right track looking up the myrmicinae O-/ ?????

Yes, Liz, it's getting to be more difficult than LBJs! At least there you know it's a BIRD, here we don't even know if it's a bird, a plane, or SuperMan O/ 0-

Weird.
Toko, YOU'RE GOOD ^Q^ ^Q^ (and/or I'm BAD 0- 0- ) :-0 You are right, they do seem to be different!

I went back to my pics, and I do have 3 pics of one w/ black antennae, a few white patches on the thorax, and a rust/red abdomen,

and about 8 pics of one w/ yellow/orangish antennae, lots of speckles/spots on the thorax, and a dark stripe on the abdomen.

I'll divide them into two entries again (like you so astutely did \O ), and add a couple pics. Thanks! O0

What do you wise ones think :-?
0/* Update, this is a wasp acc. to the Diptera.info people...any new suggested IDs based on that -O-
New update 0*\ 0*\ The wasp forum says it's a male ant -O- 0= =O:
Toko: "Am I on the right track looking up the myrmicinae?"
I believe so. I can just post it as Subfamily: Myrmicinae -O- -O-

I did read this just now, so looks like we're not the only ones confused and perplexed by this one:
"In general, male ants are very difficult to recognize.
Male ants have confounded taxonomists for centuries, dating back to Linnaeus (1764), who described the first male ant as a wasp."
^0^

Finally, if anyone is having trouble falling asleep tonight, I have a sure cure for insomnia: http://antsofafrica.org/ant_species_201 ... icinae.htm :-0

I think, you can proudly O:V post it as a myrmicine male ant =O: =O: =O:

Who knows, perhaps one day one of us will come across further info and then we can amend - no probs \O \O \O

Calliphoridae, Rhiniinae. Probably a Rhyncomya species per Diptera.info.

Okay to proceed?
I suppose I should put it under Rhiniidae, not Calliphoridae, however. ;-)
