Re: The Heat is on and the Lions as well
Nice general sightings, Pumbaa!
Love the lion shots, nice and close!
They look in good condition, despite all the parasites...I think summer is bad for ticks.
Nice river views!

Hey Pumbaa, great to be reading one of your TT's again! Great bird sightings but what an amazing leopard sighting on your first day!
Re: The Heat is on and the Lions as well
At least not all of them were sleeping

Totally right during our trips most of the lions had a great number of ticks

Re: The Heat is on and the Lions as well
Sorry for letting you wait that long but our computer crashed and it took a while to get everything back
Surprisingly all the lions stayed the whole sighting where they were despite the fuss around them
and so we also had such a great time at that sighting but after one hour we dragged ourselves away from them as we still had a bit to drive and on top mother nature was meanwhile also calling heavily.
It was long time ago when we saw along the S25 lions and as we wanted to drive that stretch again the next morning it looked already extreme promissing.
The nearer we came now the H4-2 the dryer it got and we spotted giraffes in the distance but simply had to stop for these little chaps
sitting on a rock and it looked as if they were about to sing us a song.
Also apart from each other they were simply too cute
so we stayed quite a while with them as they were so willingly posing for us and got a couple of disapproals from passengers in cars who came from the lion sighting as we were simply watching birds.
Finally we reached Crocodile Bridge camp for an urgently needed body break and at the parking area inside the camp close to the filing station we spotted a kurrichane thrush on the ground
and also a collared sunbird in one of the many trees there
who checked out curiously the strange thing in Timon’s hand.
After we also stretched our legs a bit we drove into the direction of Gesanftombi and as often large herds of zebras as well as wildebeests were hanging around out of which this cute youngster had to be captured.
Finally we stood again at the dam and it was so good to be back as last year we could not visit this part of the park so we enjoyed our visit in this area this year a bit more. As already noticed during our drives the last days also at Gesanftombi the water level was low but where there is water water birds are not far and at least a couple of Egyptian geese could be seen and also a grey heron.

Re: The Heat is on and the Lions as well
Under the prominent tree at the dam a herd of elephants gathered around as it got hotter and hotter the longer the day lasted.
One of the youngsters needed a bit more me time and was exploring the area at its own
but soon Mom had to check out what her offspring was about to do.
The H5 is definitely not my favourite road in the park but now the shortest one in reaching Biyamiti camp at least we came across there an older elephant bull in the shade but he was in a good mood and we were allowed to pass.
At least the Bume causeway is always a nice place to look again a bit around and we arrived at the right time in noticing a sunbathing water monitor
as well as a couple of waterbucks who enjoyed the remaining water in form of an extreme slim runlet of the Bume river.
The rest of our drive until we finally reached Biyamiti camp was extreme quiet at least a couple of noisy grey louries made it worth to stop and take a couple of pictures.
After one year break we finally were back at Biyamiti and got the key to bungalow No. 3 and to my delight I discovered a brand new air condition which in fact was extreme handy during the prevailing heat. After we moved in and relaxed a bit on our verandah we were in the mood for a stroll along the fence to the bird hide and we soon detected a dragonfly on the fence,
strange looking critters who were caught in the act.
and also a very well camouflaged butterfly.
In the riverbed obviously a waterbuck congress took place as we saw a couple of herds there close to the remaining puddles of the river
and behind the waterbucks a group of white backed vultures could be seen as well.
to be continued...................

Re: The Heat is on and the Lions as well
Phew, Pumbaa, I was worried I would not get my Sunday evening fix from you!
What a variety of sightings, always something new!
The three tenors on the rock are special, are they bronze mannekins?
Love the Gezantombi shots!
And interesting small things around Biyamiti, great dragonfly pic!
Happy you got aircon, a lovely present!
