Maybe we should change our logo to....
Africa Wild
Go wild for Wildlife and help to keep our Conservation Areas pure, natural and green so that the wildlife on them can be killed.
I think that you have completely missed the point here RP.
There will soon be no wildlife left to put onto all this land you say is "conserved".

Re: Hunting
So do you suggest the hunting farms close up shop?

Re: Hunting
Yes.
Get rid of the fences between the present farms to make a much larger reserve.
Turn them all into proper conservation areas with all species that were native to the area returned. Re-open as photographic safaris and make the long term mega-bucks as noted by Craig & Beverly Joubert in their article above.
More tourists visiting = more jobs for local people.
More jobs for local people = better incentive to keep the areas as wildlife havens.

Re: Hunting
I think there may be a bit of saturation regarding photo-safaris in SA...Botswana has far fewer enterprises going, and different rules about hunting Big Five...
What about the majority of hunters here, who hunt antelope for venison?

Re: Hunting
Off topic RP. The discussion is for trophy hunting versus photographic safaris.

Re: Hunting
Ok, new topic...what do you think the venison-hunting outfits should do?

Re: Hunting
Turn to photographic safaris of course!
They could still take venison from their stock, but only surplus animals and not the trophy bulls. I'm sure that it could be managed properly where all species are present on the land that is supposed to be there and still have enough to make a stick or two of biltong out of it. They may not make as much profit from venison as they do now, but that would be outweighrd by the revenue from wildlife tourism.

Ok!
Still can't get why a lion can't be shot, but an antelope can... Surely the antelope will take a dim view of this?
