All was going well, the Boss phoned me just before I went into Hoedspruit. My duty there was to buy droewors. The Boss then asked if I could buy some ice for the big cooler for the game drives. No problem!

Got the BEST droewors in SA, collected a few bags of ice, and started loading all of this in my 'clever' bakkie. All set and ready to do the last 30Km's to the meeting point, &#$%#, no car keys!!! They were left in the car while I tried to fit three huge bags of ice into one smallish cooler. The problem is that this clever bakkie locked itself, with the keys inside. (0)

Clever bakkie been there and done that

We were trying to show our guest how well we could organise a trip! A professional outfit we are, you know!

As the Boss says, it took us more than an hour to get to Casterbridge...some 25km...


And then the blithering idiot phones to say he has locked his keys in the car at Hoedspruit, but has someone coming to help, but the person does not know exactly how to help.

Meanwhile, my cellphone had subtly slipped through the cracks in the seats and was now lying somewhere in the bowels of HMS Thighmaster. (That is the name because you actually LOSE a few kilograms driving in the Landy, due to all the shaking and holding on! )

So I was already on my hands and knees on the back seat listening to Sprocky phoning...but couldn't answer.

The Boss is a very good driver, but that is sort of like saying someone is a very good Shark Cagediving Operator...it doesn't make the experience any less terrifying...


Our guest was fortunately used to us being idiots...imagine if it had been a real person!

It took about half an hour of sweating and swearing to open the bakkie. To crown it all, my beers and smokes were locked in as well! I was not a happy chappy!!

Once mobile again, I called Leachy as RP refused to answer my call and I didn't want to disturb the bosses driving skills by making him multi-task with a phone in hand. They were almost at the rendezvous spot, so I put foot and was soon to meet them.

The rendezvous point...finally!
