Some Smaller Creatures
I think I'm correct in saying that there are 4 different types of tortoise to be found in Addo, but by far the most common is the leopard tortoise. It's a species that can apparently swim! Some of you who have visited Addo may be aware that one of the guest houses at the main camp is named Domkrag (jack) after one of the really big tortoises who used to live in the park. He apparently had a tendency to crawl under vehicles and then lift them up just like a car jack


One thing to look out for at some of the water holes such as Hapoor are terrapins:

Addo is of course famous for being one of the few areas left to find the flightless dung beetle. Quite how they roll up dung into such a perfect ball is still a mystery to me


It was great to see Sharifa's TR photo of a rock monitor - they're not often seen in Addo. But if you keep your eyes open there are often quite a few smaller reptiles around
