Re: Its a WILD life....

Ok, so on a reserve in Sabi Sands again, my late brother and I were privy one morning to go out with the trackers on finding the Elusive Black Rhino, after spotting spoor in the road... Suddenly the guide motioned for us to stop, and quickly get behind a Mopani bush... Which we duly did!!!

Suddenly a big black blur of rhino came crashing through the bush, heading straight to the landy... (Honestly I was just happy it didn't have it sights on us)

We then saw the rhino smash his horn through the landy's door, pull it out and storm off in the distance! Unfortunately I do not have a pic, but the horn went right through the door, brushing the rangers leg! And all just because the Rhino could, no other reason... Thankfully we were in the safest place at that stage, away from the vehicle!!!

I must tell you, the sundowners on that particular trip were something of beauty... Never have I seen that many people suddenly deciding it was a good day to drink at least a bottle of sundowners each!!!

Yip, I think it is for that reason we can be "thankful" there are limited numbers around, as otherwise we would be on page 20000 already on this thread.... Mad hatters of the bush

Re: Its a WILD life....
Never had animals try to kill me, walking or driving myself,...maybe other than the odd malaria mosquito, except a lone bull ellie near Letaba once?
Maybe it's the smell or something?
The ellie had perhaps been hassled by tourists, or it was because it was during culling times, so it was murderously angry! I was driving our family combi as a youngster, and thought this great fun....fortunately we had got past it, and sped off every time it charged after us down the road.
It wore thin eventually, as one would stop over a hill, and lo and behold the ellie would appear over the rise, extremely determinedly, and making no bones about its intentions!
And it was fast!
Never saw this behaviour again, and we were the only vehicle around?

the first time I met a Monkey, it was at a place where we can go out of the car (maybe Biyamiti road or Red Rocks, can't remember sorry)
I go out with something to eat
