:ty: for the wonderful comment. The scenery is amazing and we only captured a small part of it. Still need to climb up Die Toon and drive some of the roads left out on this trip. \O

That's for sure. Not very impressive on the way there due to all the diamond mining around but after Sendelingsdrift the landscape change completely. \O

:ty: . When visiting Richterveld NP its also difficult to decide where to stop to take a photo. Best times for venturing out is early mornings and late afternoon. From 10 am - 5 pm to hot to move around. ;-)

Your shots are magnificent especially the last one of your first installment from Wednesday - Sigh \O
:ty: for the compliments. Photo's do not tell the full story and although we had awesome sightings and pics to show the hot weather was nearly too much to bear. We had no energy to walk around after 10 am and just crashed down with wet towel covering us.

When going plan on what photos you want to take and book accommodation very close to that point. Our visit was long enough, but 2 days would have given us a chance to see other spots like Potjiespram, De Hoop and Domorogh Pass. \O

Ja...unnerving having fish nibble at you while swimming...wonder why they do that? (0!)

Hope they don't have a #queenvictoriamustfall there! =O: =O: =O:

I was thinking about the TV series on Hillbilly hand fishing where they make use of noodling to catch catfish while cooling myself down in the river. Its fine if you want to catch a fish, but not the other way round when the fish catches you.

lol lol lol

No # tags only geocaches, which we were to scared to search for under the rocks in case a day walker surprise us. I think they need #rainmustfall. Just too hot out there. O**

Day 5 Part 2: Gannakouriep Camp

One last photo taken at 3 am at Tatasberg that I've missed posting:

Image

Succulant plant growing in the Kokerboomkloof: The Sarcocaulon is a succulent belonging to the family of Geraniaceae, which consists in a dense spiny bush

Image

Richtersveld NP is a bit different from other park in that they are allowing livestock and dogs in the park. We met a hiker and his dog at Kokerboomkloof campsite that was busy circumnavigating the park on foot. Most of the day they rested and at night walked from one camp to another when its cooler. They entered the park on the same day we entered it and on day 3 at Kokerboomkloof campsite. Luckily it was full moon from 7 pm to morning to help them seeing the road and getting the right directions.

Image

Around lunch time we reached Gannakouriep camp with the sun high up and not giving much shade. We were a bit disappointed to find no curtains in both the bedroom and kitchen and had to improvise to get some sort of shade. The camp is within a rocky valley and the cabins consist of a kitchen on the left, walk though bathroom in the middle and bedroom on the right. Outside a little stoep luckily on the southern side where we tried to cool down the rest of the afternoon. The water is very salty at this camp and even more than KTP, so a shower leaves your skin salty. Best solution when the temperature is in the mid forties is to drink enough water. When booking here remember to ensure you have enough water. We thought we had enough cool drinks and in the end had to rely on the extra 15 liters of water we brought along.

Sunny bedroom - Can't believe no curtains with the sun beating down on the cabin for most of the day:

Late afternoon the clouds started moving in building u to a short thunderstorm just when the fire was ready to braai.

The Sarcocaulon looks as if they can hurt you pretty bad

The "no curtains" is not the best 0*\ a little air con would not hurt --00-- ;-)

The star pic is impressive

What is the sense walking during the night, when you cannot admire the landscape nor see the animals, if there are any :-?

:ty: . During the day its just too hot to walk, but we did see the guy and his dog walking on the day we entered the park and they do walk early mornings see quite a lot. It was over Easter and full moon making walking at night easier and you can still spot Cape foxes, jackal, genets, African wild cats and caracal that you may not see at day time. \O
