Day 4, 24 April 2017, Satara - Lower Sabie

Continuing on down the H1-2 we found a Goliath Heron on the first low-level bridge.

A few lions had obviously been around the second bridge quite recently.

We got onto the H4-1 and about 19kms from Lower Sabie we saw a couple of stopped cars. We heard there were some wild dogs sleeping in front of a tree in the riverbed. We eventually managed to see them but the bush was very thick so cars were now piling up trying to spot them.

Image

At this point a large ellie appeared about 100m down the road headed towards us. Everyone was now watching the ellie to see if he would move off the road, but he had other ideas and just kept plodding towards us so everyone started turning around to get out of his way. Once the vehicles had all moved a respectable distance away, the ellie decided to leave the road.....right at the spot where the wild dogs were. We heard him trumpeting and by the time we had moved back to where the wild dogs had been, they had disappeared! :O^ That's the quickest I've seen a traffic jam cleared!! lol lol

A resting bushbuck.

Some boons entertained us before reaching Lower Sabie.

We checked in at Lower Sabie with no fuss, and were given one of the new EH3 huts which were converted from the old family bungalows.

Hopefully you'll have more luck at Lower Sabie than at Satara \O
