The ostrich looks VERY near Bowkerskop, Flutts! lol

Nice pics! \O

This is a road of three parts, and the longest tar road between restcamps without a rest-stop on it!

The first part is quite larney, following the Tsendze river, with quite a bit of vegetation! Then a ghastly long stretch of open monotonous mopaneveld until one reaches the Shingwedzi river, where the landscape changes drastically again with riverine bush and some big trees! \O

Spoke to Dr de Vos, but it was at Brewers, so can't remember everything. It was part of the military-sponsored Anti-Insurgent tar arterial for the entire Park in the 70's, 80's and later, and was originally meant to be a straight tar road from Letaba to Shingwedzi, (There was no Mopane Camp), and bugger the wtaerpoints and game viewing. (One had the Old Main Road for tourists, a dirt road).

Eventually Kruger put their foot down and the then director of technical services himself charted out the more meandering course of the tar road, on bulldozerback, as it were! \O

More info required! :o0ps:

Thanks RP, interesting to know a bit of the history.

Back to this long and winding road:

It’s November 5th 2016 and we just passed the turn-off to the Shongololo Loop and not expected at all here a pack of Painted Dogs on the road, we counted 14 of them.

We never saw AWD here and we spent quiet some time in this area
