21st August 2017

We were up early from the drive to Satara.

First a few pics of the early morning at Lower Sabie.

We headed up the H4-1 and turned on to the S79 causeway, where we found a Saddle Bill family

Then some Baboons outside Nkhulu

After a short stop at Skukuza, we headed up the H1-2, turning off at the s84 loop, where these two lions were sleeping

Just outside Satara, we spotted an Ellie digging for water.

She proceeded to show us that she had found water. ^Q^

We had booked 3 BD3B’s alongside each other, and when unpacking, we found that 1 geyser was not working, two huts glass doors were jammed and the kettle did not work in 1 hut, microwave not working in the other a stove not working in the third. 0-

Sanparks fixed the geyser and doors, and we pulled the working kettle and microwave to the hut where the stove was working, so at least we had 1 hut with everything working. We would use this hut as the base for all cooking lol

Later that evening we had a visit for a wild cat, very friendly and was obviously used to people.

What a nice visitor at the fence there for your early-morning coffee, SN! IO

Nice sightings, and a night visit from Miss Satara, although probably her kids by now! :-0

Satara is really the pits lately regarding maintenance, although they sent in a corrective unit this year and have been using HRs to do basic reconciliation and management! \O

Ah, the famous Miss Satara (even if it's the 3rd or whatever generation lol )

The saddle-bills are beautiful and my, that tiny baboon - very cute 0/0

22nd August 2017

We took an early morning drive up the S100, the plan was to do the S100 / S41 / h6 loop. About half way up the S100, we spotted a Leopard stalking a Bushbuck ram. The Leopard charged and came very close to catching the Bushbuck but a quick left turn by the Bushbuck and the leopard missed.
The bush was quite thick, so the pics are not so good

Image

The S41 was very dry and there was not even any general game to spot, on the H6 we came across a very friendly Ellie who walked alongside the car and seemed to be interested in the occupants

22nd August 2017 - Continued

For the afternoon drive we all agreed to try the S100 again, then loop back to Nsemani dam to watch the sun set. The guy with decent tusks was the first good sighting.

Image

Image

He was being followed by this bunch of younger Ellies

Image

Then we came across this cocky little Ellie, and we were not going to be allowed past

Image

Image

The Ellie was still a teenager and very brave

Image

Even rolled up the trunk and charged…

Image

But must have realized that the Discovery was much bigger and soon as we revved the engine, it ducked behind a bush.
