Geese indeed Lis - well spotted

I'm not 100% sure but I think the tortoise is a Karoo Padloper

Yep the weather can be surprisingly varied at times there!
Thanks Pumbaa

Re: Back to Mountain Zebra
It was our last morning in the park, and we were up in good time to get out the gate early. Our day started extremely well with another blackie sighting

Our plan for the morning involved checking out Rooiplaat so once up there we saw that a couple of cars had gone one way around the loop so I figured I would try the other. Both sides of the loop are visible for most of the time so if they stopped for anything we could probably work out if it was anything interesting
Fairly soon we noticed that the other cars had stopped, but sure enough with the help of binoculars it was clearly a herd of blesbok that had grabbed their attention so we continued on our way. When we were about half way round the loop the other cars went onto the link road and came to a halt by the waterhole where the zebra had been going crazy the previous morning. I was expecting to see the same scene, but through the binoculars I could clearly see a male lion!!
We were on entirely the wrong side of Rooiplaat and it took quite some time before we got round to the other side. Just as we arrived, the cars were moving off in opposite directions so we figured we had missed the sighting
But knowing the direction of travel that the lion had been on I thought it might hit the Rooiplaat road further up which was what one of the other cars had in mind as well. Heading up into the right area we had a good view out over the landscape and could see Nomad making his way along in the direction that I had been expecting - his black mane standing out quite clearly

As we drove further up to where we thought he would pop out, we started to realise there were more and more lion blending into their surroundings

Before long it was clear that we had something approaching a mega-pride moving in our direction....

Re: Back to Mountain Zebra
If it wasn't for the mane of Nomad, the lions would have been hard to spot in that landscape. What a wonderful sighting it must have been

Black rhino and black lion!

Well-strategized, Peej!

I wonder if they choose the most Cape Lion lookalaike males for reintroduction?
There is a story somewhere that the extinct genes are somewhere...

A black rhino is always a more than thrilling sighting, PJL,
you got such amazing shots and then I love the lions in the Long grass indeed they are very hard to discover but that makes the shot so unique
