the developer is a outside company.

Sanparks are merely setting their land free
for exploitation!!!

Yip I know about the Malelane developer, who seems to have bailed but Skukuza has always been SANParks, although never directly admitted until this years budgets came out

Your'e quite right BC., however does this type
of action and situation entitle SANparks to adopt
the old attitude, "since I pay the bucks it entitles

I believe not! I had my fair share of headbutting
here lately and why, 'cause Sanparks shifted the
parameters, a sly move!!!

A rather large lodge going unnoticed without EIA.,
which can be addressed however the threat of hotel
next door to lodge still remains even more so!!!

Never read page 2 as yet, but be warned, treat ever

The bigger picture would be that, not only will a rather
huge lodge come about, to service the conference centre,
from own financial coffers endeavoured but also the threat
of a hotel still looms!!!

Maybe situated next to the lodge!!!???

H, you don’t want to get me started on this as I have a rather strong opinion on this topic.

This isn’t SANParks paying for it, rather every visitor to the parks, therefore not SANParks money, they just have decided to spend our money this way, which unfortunately according to every poll that I have seen is against what the majority of visitors want, which freaks me out.

Let me ask a few questions

Why was the conference centre built when most paying visitors didn’t want it?

Who is going to mainly utilize this underutilized conference centre in the future?

Who wants hotel type accommodation on a free conference paid for by taxpayers and those average park visitors who never wanted a conference centre in the first place?

Etc, etc

It’s simple in my eyes, but some still wave the flags, jump up and down with praise, but are really just ostriches in my eyes or even worse, cowards, as they don’t have the guts to actually say what they feel or believe publically, yet I have met many who talk the talk behind the scenes, but continue with their cowardly way and flag waving elsewhere, which I can only see as suctioning, for what reason, only they know.

On another note, wouldn’t R200 000 000 be better spent on maintaining the existing units that the majority stay in who helped raised the R 200 000 000 in the first place, or even better spent on anti poaching initiatives

No not at all!!!! With proper spent funding Skuks will become 4X the size,
That is to say should "that" money be reinvested back into proper maintenance
coffers!!

Geez, BC too much of a good thing also becomes bad!!

At this rate that Sanparks bestows quality time and money for
upliftment then soon Africa will be the best ZOO to visit!!!

Kruger to get two high end hotels

Skukuza - Two high-end hotels are in the pipeline for construction in the Kruger National Park.

Tourism Update reports that one will be established by international hotel group, Rezidor, and the other by SANParks itself in a bid to diversify its product offering. The two hotels will be known as Rezidor's Radisson Blu Safari Resort and SANParks' Skukuza Conference Lodge.

Andrew McLachlan, Rezidor's vice president Africa and Indian Ocean Islands, told Tourism Update that the Safari Resort will feature 120 rooms, a restaurant, a boma area, a cigar bar and a spa among other things. It will be located approximately 10km from the Malelane gate.

The Skukuza Conference Lodge is still in early planning stages, but the current proposal suggests that it will have 120 rooms and is estimated to cost in the region of R164m.

According to Glenn Phillips, SANParks Managing Executive: Tourism and Marketing, the addition of these hotels formed part of Kruger's commercialization strategy and would assist in diversifying the park's product offering.

Phillips said that there was no reason to believe that the developments would have a negative impact on the park's biodiversity. He added that the developments would create between 600 and 700 jobs from conceptualization to construction.
