Fawn-colored Lark Mirafra africanoides
Identification
Length 14-16 cm. A fairly small lark with relatively long wings and tail. White underparts with lightly-streaked breast, plain face, and pale eyebrow. Upperparts vary in colour.
Similar species: Sabota Lark is more heavily streaked (above and below) and has malar and moustachial stripes.

Identification
Upperpart coloration is very variable but the rufous cap is diagnostic. Has a crest which is normally not obvious but is used as part of the courtship display.

Identification
20 cm. Most resembles Burchell's Courser from which it is distinguished by being generally more grey-brown above, having a rufous, not grey hind crown and a black patch, not line, on its lower belly, above this black patch is an irregular rufous area. In flight, the outer tail shows up white and the underwing is black with a contrasting white trailing edge. The immature is duller with lightly speckled upperparts.
