An event , is something that happens now and then , is something special , that you dress up for , sometimes even in a suit ........ something like that ...
In other words , sommer some kind of happening , like a wedding , or such ......![]()
But , braai in South Africa is a way of lifeIt is the essence of good living , and it is something you do at least once a week , and twice over weekends . And here , I mean during winter , of course

In summer , is when we get serious about it![]()
Gas is very popular in the UK. I have a gas braai. It is convenient. Gotto admit. Light it and you are cooking 5 mins later. Use it if at the last minute the SO wants to have a quickie

But on the weekend, or if I am home early from work, then I light my charcoal one.
Am currently having a brick braai built. "As we speak".
Found some designs on the net, and tailored it a bit with the builder.
It's going to be huge - 2 pallets of bricks, arch type roof. In built storage and tables on the side. 2 pallets of bricks (over 650)
Grid is 1m x 50 cm 6mm cast iron.
Am sooooooooooo excited. Will post photos when it is done.

Re: Essential Camping Equipment
Poor. Really poor.

We have 2 a week. At least.
One the weekend and one in the evening during the week.
But because our winters are so dire, we are limited to April to September

Re: Essential Camping Equipment
The gas one does not smell nicely from wood
But I must admit that braaing takes a lot of time to prepare and if only two persons not to talk about one, it is mostly not worth the trouble.....and nobody comes to clean the next morning

Agree. It doesn't taste the same.
But for what it is, very easy and convenient.

Re: Braaing and Recipes
You should post the plans on this thread so that you can get planning/building permission

Enough is enough
Re: Braaing and Recipes
Ok, here it is:
There is not going to be a fridge (will have to go indoors to get the beer) and no wood front to the bottom storage area.
