Day 7 - 9th October (Continued)

Now I can post the photo's of the lioness's mate.

lion

The lion is the only member of the cat family with a tasselled tail, which serves a purpose beyond aesthetics. It's often used to signal to other members of the pride, with messages ranging from directional, "this way" commands to flirtatious, "come hither" invitations.

A lion's claws are not only very sharp, but also retractable, which helps maintain the big cat's slice-and-dice capabilities by preventing injury during play. Their claws grow as a series of layers. These eventually shred to expose new claws that can reach lengths of up to 1 1/2 inches from the base to tip.

Day 7 - 9th October (Continued)

It was now 11h15am and Lijersdraai had provided us with a fantastic morning viewing. It was now getting hot so we started the van and made our way back to camp.

We arrived in camp and after handing in our permit decided we would make fresh bread for lunch. After organising the mix and starting the fire we sat and relaxed outside with the bees with some ice cold drinks.

The bread turned out great and it was just crisp and hot so it was a simple butter, peanut butter and syrup lunch. After lunch we decided to grab a quick nap.

Below is some addition photos from our morning:
