That's a pretty female Carpenter bee, Xylocopa flavorufa. She wears a beautiful fuzzy red coat, made of branched hairs. These bees mate in the air and as you can immagine it's not easy form him to hold on her in flight. The solution is a tricky velcro device on the male's legs. His legs are covered in finest hair loops that are caught by the branched hook-like bristles of the female's abdomen hair. Another question is however how they pull apart then when they are done. I thinks there is a ripping sound and the male will sometimes get away with sore legs

It was new year's eve that night, and the lazy ones were full of beans!

But I went to sleep before the midnight hour...dead tired! The camp was quiet, just a few fireworks apparently?

Next morning the people were in hibernation again...so went on a drive alone for the first time in MANY years!

Wasn't too bad...

Road looked the same as the year before!














I love this area in summer!

You never know what's around the next corner, and before I knew it I was in front of a breeding herd moving fast, just made it past them in time!
