Identification
35 cm; sexes alike. Overall pale rufous colour with fine black streaks, spots and bars, upright stance with longish yellow legs and pale cream eyes diagnostic. No malar stripe present; in flight underwing coverts are white.
Juvenile: Eyes dark, body deeper rufous and with bolder black markings.
