Who cares. It is utterly ridiculous overkill, and sheer bloody-mindedness. The dam was broken in floods years ago and hardly keeps significant water anymore compared to the rest of the river. 0*\

Ja, this whole "Purist" approach falls flat for reasons like the following:

There are f-all rare antelope near Gudzane. If Kanniedood is about erosion, well, I don't know. Presumably they think animals congregate there and contribute to overgrazing, maybe hippos too? The dam was built there very purposely as the best spot for holding water, so logic dictates water will be there for most of the year anyway. same happened with Sirheni Dam. It is a big river.

Meanwhile there are a number of dams in the general Shingwedzi area, which would attract the rare antelope chop-chop.

According to the logic of erosion and Purism, Lake Panic and Sunset dam should be destroyed, as well as Berg&Dal dam, Orpen waterhole and Satara's two waterholes?

The more realistic problem is that there are going to be more and more droughts coming and theorising about Purism while Kruger's watersources are increasingly overextracted and polluted outside its borders is a gamebreaking gamble.

A big chunk of the dam wall was washed away in the last flood .
The flood also scoured out the riverbed leaving natural pools of water where previously it was just a large piece of sand-filled nothing :O^ That remaining piece of dam wall is just an eye-sore does not retain any water at all , and would cost hundreds of millions in Rands to re-build . It is currently only a eye-sore , so good riddance \O .
