Trip to Kruger NP 2015 (October – November) New series of Stories
07 – Once in a Lifetime (part I)
Part I (story part I, II and III)
Please join us for this story. Like a good movie or book, the last part was breathtaking and surprizing. The whole sighting started 12.10 PM and ended 18:40 PM so take lunch and drinks with you.
We were having a coffee at Afsaal and decided to follow some small roads on our way to Skukuza.
We were driving on the S114 and approached Renosterkoppies and the waterhole nearby. There was a nice number of cars so probably there was something to see.
At the RH side of the waterhole we could see many lions, some laying down, others slowly walking around and some others….

Pending from left to right we saw more and more lions

There it was…. The kill ! Buffalo down and feeding time

(hint… this story is not “just” about lions and the kill….)
After feeding it’s good to drink some water…

Pending back to the right … the lions walked on / off for feeding while others were laying down in different groups under some trees.

15 minutes there and we could take a better position. Cars and tourist vehicles were coming and going all the time.
We tried to count the lions , it was not easy ….

As you can see …
We counted more then 20
Sometimes a lion / lioness came to the waterhole for a drink

12:45 PM, It was time to go to Skukuza for meeting our friend Eland (forumite) at Skukuza
With this impression I will end this part….

Back at Renosterkoppies (waterhole)
We just had a very very nice lunch with Eland (forumite) and her family and told them to go here.
We moved back to this place at 16:45 PM. May be when it’s getting a bit cooler with sunset later on we can see more activity
What a good choice….
Getting back and not that many cars anymore so we were able to get a wonderful position with a very good view at the waterhole and surrounding area.
Lions still there ? yessssssss and better light now

Just after this lioness left the waterhole …suddenly and almost out of nothing a white rhino
-
-
After a short visit at the “bar” the rhino walked away to the left… so , pending to the right to see the scene with the buffalo kill and the lions

Family dinner….
-

No time to look at this too long since one of the lions went to the waterhole
-
-
and followed by a few others.

Just near us a Baboon-family was looking at the scene too… they wanted to go to the waterhole but …too many lions … so they were making a lot of noise and this one looked angry at the place…

Disturbing the plans of the Baboons… a young male lion came for a drink

Still busy at the kill-zone ?
