what to do when your pictures are totally underexposed.
On the 550D Canon it is a problem when switching the camera on/off and you move the button from AV to M.
i took my cousin to rietvlei and it was her first visit in a park, her first time with a DSLR camera and she did a tremendous job taking pics.
We had amazing sightings and seeing it all new through her eyes made it double enjoyable for me also.
Of the 700 pics she took, 680 are underexposed (taken on M) - how can I help her?
I don't have Lightroom, Photoshop or any 'smart' tools to work with. Should I invest in a good programme?

Before expending any money on buying a program, I'd try one of the FREE photo processing sites online just to be sure they are salvageable. Here's one I found, but have not used, and perhaps others know of sites that they do use.

Good luck, and let us know what happens.

You also have more control if they were taken in RAW format Amoli. If they are only slightly overexposed, you can adjust the exposure easily. It all depends on how much over exposure there is?
Agree with ExF-stop above. (Sorry, could not resist that one.
)
E-mail me a pic or two and I'll see if I can help out.

Thanks Exfmem and Dewi.
I have tried two free downloads with little success.
I will e-mail you pics tonight Dewi and see if they can be salvaged. Thanks a lot.
I'm off to Vulpro with cuzzie, but I will help her watch out for the big M today.

Okay we are back. Amoli why don't you down load the new DPP program from Canon, it's free and all you have to do is just put the serial no in when asked to verify that you have a canon. Or down load one here so that we can see what the problem is
Go to software and down load
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/p ... ndSoftware Digital Photo Professional 3.14.48 Updater for Windows or Digital Photo Professional 4.5.1 Updater for Windows, not sure if 4.3.1 will work as it does not work with older camera,s like the 20D

Amoli The photo's are too small to try and save .Is it possible e-mail me a full size so I can see what can be done pref the Rhino shot as that's the worst. I see the settings where on manual as you say and also the white Balance was on manual
which is a major problem here when brining it back to the correct settings.

Amoli, have you tried GIMP? It's supposed to do some of the things that Photoshop does -it's open software so it's free! I've not used it but it's probably better than nothing
bearing in mind that you get what you pay for
I'm sure Google has some info on it!
