I sooo love that cheetah sighting though! You were incredibly lucky with this particular family. There weren't that many reports of sightings of them.
That's also a reason why we struggle to match up the youngsters... but at least, I think I managed to distinguish between the individuals thanks to
your posting. And while I worked on that, you gave me even more fodder with the other side of the body. At this rate I'll never get to bed tonight

Down here those lone wildebeest bulls (if it's a bull) have to stand in their prime spot half the year to protect it from competitors until mating time arrives around autumn, don't know if it's the same in the desert?

Their survival rate is not so good...

I'm sure you heard of the KTP Leopard Project and of Matthew Schurch. He's got SanParks' permission to
have the leopards named and by now also the cheetahs. For both is true that the person who reports a
sighting in first (i.e. with cubs) will be asked to name them. Sometimes it's more than one person doing
so, especially when talking about several cubs in a litter.

We've already had members from here being the first to report their sightings and they shared their
honour with us, meaning we got to suggest names and do a poll for the favourite(s).

And yes, those names are recognized in the Park as well. You'll find print copies of the ID guides in each
and every camp across the Kgalagadi and especially the wilderness camp managers are quite keen to
ID "their" cheetahs or leopards
