Social Media Update Sabi Sand Nature Reserve Leopard Incident:
Sabi Sand Nature Reserve (Formerly Sabi Sand Wildtuin) confirms that an incident took place on Sunday 21 August 2022 when a leopard attacked and seriously injured an employee.
The leopard, an old male in poor condition, attacked the employee who was on the veranda at her residence. She sustained multiple injuries from the attack and was airlifted to a nearby hospital.
This is unusual behaviour for a leopard, and it is assumed that his age and poor condition led to this desperate attack.
Sabi Sand Nature Reserve confirms that the leopard has since been euthanised in accordance with all protocols for incidents of this nature, with the necessary approval in place from the provincial authority, Mpumalanga Tourism & Parks Agency (MTPA).
A full investigation of the incident is underway.
