Flavour of the Month - Nov/Dec 2019: S114

The original route from Malelane to Skukuza is a gravel road and at busy times can be a great escape from the crowds. There are multiple options to escape off the road if it's too corrugated or sightings are quiet, but we have had quite a bit of luck on the few times we have driven along this route.

From the H3, the southern section initially follows the Crocodile River course before swinging up north through the Mhlambane River basin, past Biyamiti Wier and then Renosterkoppies before joining the H1-1 near Skukuza.

Do we include James and Renosterkoppies windmills? -O-

Renosterkoppies, with a renoster! (2016)

This is near the Stevenson-Hamilton koppie, at the junction with the S21 and S112. It is an operating waterpoint with regular big-5 activity, although a bit far from the road.

Here are a lot of cars looking at buffalo, I think?

Renosterkoppies dam is on the right as you drive north with the actual rock outcrops on your left... not sure about James - is that the one just north of the Mhlambane crossing?

The section which runs parallel to the Crocodile River is quite nice and open. We've heard lion in the area a couple of times but never seen them there 0*\

On our recent trip we saw a mixture of game along the southern section including steenbok, ground hornbill, elephant and rhino

James windmill is at the S119 junction on the Southern end of the S114. It is near the road with great views of animals coming to drink, but is quite often inoperative, or a bit pointless as there is normally water at the nearby bridge over the Mlambane River.

Looks like the water overflows a lot..see the erosion!
