Thanks for the comments PN, Sprocky, Amoli, PRWIN & Lis.
PN, I took a lot of pics with my mik en druk this trip, still busy downloading from the Nikon, so only small pics for the first couple of posts until I get to sort out the RAW files.
Sprocky, Town visit coming up in a moment.
Amoli, hope I can do the place justice on this TT. At one spot I simply put my camera down as sat for ages completely in awe of the experience in front of me. But more of that later in the report.
PRWIN, The first Isbiorn pics coming up. No Lassie I'm afraid, I'm not that lucky.
Lis, Suitcase still half full. Thought you would love the Puffin sign. -O

Re: In Search of Isbjørn.
Meanwhile, back in town we walked up to the shops where there was a statue in remembrance of the coal miners who worked there in difficult conditions in earlier times.

The view looking back down the high street.

As mentioned, we popped into the museum for a quick look around before embarking on the ship. The museum is on the right hand side of the building.

There were lots of interesting exhibits about the early exploration of the islands.

We had the chance to learn about the wildlife that we hoped to see soon, such as this Walrus.

I mused on the thought of being able to get a head shot of a live Walrus.........
And got up close and personal with our first Bears.

What were the chances of getting views from this close of the real live ones I wondered, hoped and dreamed..........
And an Arctic Fox.

I hoped that Lis would forgive me for this one as she had asked for a pic of a white fox and I'd told her that as it was Summer time, they would all be in their Summer coats of brown tones.
Or would they?

Re: In Search of Isbjørn.
Already captivated!!!
The ship looks nice, the scenery stunning and your story is very interesting!
Is that the only polar bear you got close to?
An no puffin on the ship at all?
How did you cope?

Re: In Search of Isbjørn.
Not sure how I missed this, but have caught up now. Quite a sense of humor with the No puffin sign (I'm hoping they just meant in that particular place) and the Rum.
I too hope that you had some spectacular sightings and many photos ops. Look forward to hearing more.

Small world indeed!Dewi wrote:we had met at a small base in Antarctica waaaaaay back in 1984 where we had a bit of a shindig between base members and the staff from the ship Linblad Explorer, but that's another story for another day. Small World.
Only a world away...talk about coincidence!
