18th August 2019.

As Roxy and Kelly had a car issue the previous day, the first order of business was to get the car sorted. The girls chilled while we headed off to the Marloth garage, right in front of our house was a growing group of people. A Leopard had been spotted on the Kruger side river bank. The car was forgotten about and soon the family joined in the search, by the time I could run back to the house (about 10 meters ) and get the camera, the leopard had disappeared into a bush. So, I took a photo of the bush as a reminder. The Leopard is under the bush on the left, you can make out a spot in the HD pic but nothing on this resized one…



Then back to car fixing, which ended about lunch time. So now we only had a few hours to drive, so with there being little action around Croc Bridge, we agreed to go back in Malelane gate and do the S118 / S119 loop again, we had seen Lion and Leopard the day before.

First up was a surprise of Wild Dog..



This specific dog has an awesome coat, not the normal spots and stripes but just spots and very clear patterns.



The dogs were moving around but as it was still early they were not going anywhere just yet.





They were lying right next to the road, and there was only two other cars, so we stayed a while.










We continued on up to Afsaal for a pit stop and returned later to see if the dogs had moved…. And yes they were gone. They had collected their pups and moved south, we followed but with no luck, they were gone.

So we took a drive to Berg-en-Dal and on the way picked up a Leopard on one of the far hills. We sat and watched it moving across the hill for about 30 minutes.





It was great to see the Leopard moving about undisturbed by people, usually they are surrounded by cars and cameras and act differently.



When the constant explaining to others where to look got toooo much we handed the sighting over and moved on down to Malelane gate and back to Marloth.

19th August 2019

Today was going to be another full day, we would enter at Croc Bridge and drive on up to Skukuza, as we had not stopped there yet, and we needed our annual kids photo on the statue.

The Hyena clan had moved away to make space for two young male lions at Gezantombi dam.






After that there was lots of general game again on the way up to Lower Sabie.




This little Ellie had what looked like a thorn in its foot and was trying to pull / scrape it out. Mom ellie was getting very frustrated at it for not moving fast enough.

19th August 2019 Continued…

Lovely stuff, SN, and all the carnivores look well-fed!

I like your take on the distant leopard sighting, very different and you are right!

19th August 2019

Just after the S79 causeway we spotted a lioness walking next to the road.



We followed as she walked alongside the road, then as cars started to build up. And then then this guy arrived and decided that he would take over the sighting and pushed in directly in front of us or at least tried to. Our windows we open and he and his guests were told off at the top of our voices. At first he made an attempt to push further but was advised by his guests to move back in line.

He eventually reversed back.





The lioness continued to walk down to the river and back up as she moved in the direction on Nkulu.

At this point the traffic jam was getting worse.




so we abandoned the follow and continued on our way to Skukuza.

A few kilos further the traffic jam was even worse, a real Kruger - Leopard jam…. OSVs blocking the road for everyone, so traffic heading south had to drive off road on the left.



We worked our way through the traffic, I don’t stop long at these type of sightings as its just not work the effort. We eventually got to the other side after stopping for a few pics (30 seconds) as it was not even that clear a sighting.



As we tried to move off.. again the OSVs blocked the road, and now we had to wait for all the traffic heading south to pass before we could move on. As we pulled off a lady in the white car behind the OSVs lost her marbles and started screaming at Kelly, blaming us for holding up traffic and blocking the way ??

These OSVs are a huge problem and are increasing on a yearly basis, I’m just glad I don’t have to be in Kruger during public school holidays, Bushcraft has told me some horror stories of what goes on then.

Yes the car ended up a quick repair

Ag don't be so hard on the OSVs, they are only making a living...

Is it possible that I can see the tail of the leopard under the bush?

Some of those OSV drivers are a bunch of arrogant bad-mannered people It looks like the "Place of Rock" ( ) one has driven into the bush

Better no Kruger than a Kruger like that It must have been nice to get back to the quiet Marloth after the mess
