Yeah one would think the pre-booking should avoid everyone being confused and out of their vehicles 0*\

Thanks everyone :ty: :ty:

We snuck in again on Tuesday for a morning visit, what with it being a public holiday here. Instead of the south gate we ventured north in the hope of finding lions. One benefit of the main gate in the north is that not many people use it currently because the road from PE isn't great, so there were hardly any of us going in that way O/\

Our first stop after entering the park was Gwarrie & Rooidam. We figured that Jack had been seen there a few days prior, and there are hyena dens in the area so it was a good starting point. There was no sign of life, but the views with low-level clouds were quite scenic in the dim pre-dawn light

Image

We headed back towards Domkrag as that is also a good area to try and find Jack & Jill. The sun finally came up but there were still no cats around

Image

That area is also great for seeing pale chanting goshawks. I'm not sure what it is, but the loop has plenty of them hanging out there first thing in the morning. This one didn't stick around for long though...

Image

On Gorah loop there were some Denham's Bustards

Image

We spooked a couple of jackal on the way up to Carols Rest and on arrival we were just in time to see 3 hyena moving off into the bush in the distance. It looked like they might end up popping out onto the road based on their direction of travel but we didn't get to see them again.

Our plan was to head south and see what else we could find. Near Gwarrie pan we spotted a common duiker - not something we get to see much of in Addo as they are so shy O:V

Image

Hapoor seemed like a good location for breakfast so we parked off there for a while. The water was really calm so there were some nice reflections O:V

Image

We were busy munching on some brekkie when there was a sudden trumpeting sound and behind us the first herd of the day was motoring along with extreme excitement towards the water ^Q^ ^Q^

Image

Image

Image

After a pit-stop at Jacks we noticed another herd arriving at Marion Baree waterhole... someone at the front sniffing out the water

Image

And a little one copying the idea \O

Image

Thirst quenched for the adults....

Image

As well as the kids ;-)

Image

Near Wayne's valley we had a good view of a male buffalo - quite a decent set of horns for Addo buffs O\/

Image

With no sign of lions in the north we checked both directions of the Addo Heights road without any luck. However we saw this brown hooded kingfisher looking for snacks at the Gorah entrance garden O:V

Image

We scoured the southern loops but by now it was getting warm and there wasn't much more to see.... just a jackal on Vukani before we headed home for luch \O
