The talons of strigid owls are sharp and hooked and their feet are zygodactyl with a reversible fourth toe. The reversible outer toe of each foot can point either forward or backward, as the owl wishes. Sometimes three of the owl’s toes point forward, sometimes only two. With two toes pointing forward and two back, known as a zygodactyl, the owl can perch securely on a branch.

Darters have large feet with all four toes webbed. The three parts of webbing link all 4 toes. This is called a totipalmate foot structure and besides improving underwater propulsion, also provides enough warmth and insulation for egg incubation.

(Off topic - I'll remove later today. I notice there seems to be a gremlin in the mechanism of recording "Views" in a few topics. After I posted some pics yesterday here, the views were 1146, which I already found suspicious that so many people were enthralled with Birds' Feet. I then continued to look at the count over the next few minutes and it went to 1283, 1508, 1711....and I was the only one listed as on that topic, and the people on the Forum ranged from 11 - 22. )

If someone can Patent this system we can make lots of $$$ selling it to politicians who can record DOZENS of votes for every single actual vote.

I wonder how cormorants and darters can perch in trees where they nest. Difficult with all toes forward
