S141 Private Road to Shimuwini Bushveld Camp

The main road between the tar road and camp is very corrugated at times with Sanparks vehicles and guests flying down the road.

We have driven this road during winter and summer months. We like the loop road going along the Letaba river.

There's many places where one gets close to the river with lots of shade to park under and have lunch watching hippos and other animals close to the water.
There's also a resident leopard but we haven't been so lucky to see it.
Along this loop road you also get a beautiful baobab tree with lots of rocks put under it so the elephants can't get close to damage the tree

I did the Shimuwini Loop, because I wanted to see the baobab. The elephants have done a lot of damage to the bark





At the end of the Loop a nice group of young Waterbuck males

This loop is always quiet with cars and most of the time one feels all alone there. I nearly got stuck once at a very thick uphill sand road. Had to reverse back down the hill and again couldn’t make it up.... on the third attempt I managed to make it through the soft sand

During our June 2013 trip we found a dead impala close to camp.
For two days no predator or scavenger found this carcass which made us think there's no predators in the area

We have never seen any predator in this area.
